Denise Currie, RAc
Denise has been practicing as a registered acupuncturist in BC since 2005. She graduated from Oshio College of Acupuncture and Herbology in Victoria BC. Denise brings her practice a deep desire to explore the health concerns of each client she meets, and how traditional Chinese Acupuncture and Food-cures can help to resolve these concerns. Her passion for her practice returns her with ample amounts of energy which she happily channels back into her work.
Denise grew up in the Okanagan Valley. She left after high school making Terrace BC her home for 10 years where she worked as a fisheries/watershed restoration tech. Denise’s draw to Traditional Chinese Medicine came from merging two passions: Environmental studies and holistic health. Traditional Chinese Medicine views the body as a microcosm of the macrocosm (earth). Imbalances in the environment are synonymous with imbalances in the body. For example, if there is a blockage in a small creek and the water is redirected, the body of water which received the water from that creek will no longer receive from that source and this will greatly affect its balance. In the same way, if there is a blockage of qi, (pronounced “chi”) in the body, the balance of the organ system that receives from that channel in the body will be affected.
Blockages can occur from traumatic injury, unhealthy lifestyle (stress, lack of exercise, poor diet, overworking, etc.), and even emotions that are held inside and not expressed in a healthy manner. Acupuncture can clear these blockages in the body. When the body is in balance, mood, appetite, energy, sleep, etc., all are in balance as well. There is no separation between mind and body.
Denise’s years of practice have shown her again and again that acupuncture can and does resolve health issues, and in doing so brings a sense of peace and centredness which she sees radiating from the faces of clients after receiving a treatment.
Denise is happy to once again call Kelowna her home and looks forward to meeting you.
